JDA Open 2023 at Dinwiddie Sports Club held on Saturday 18 February 2023

ESDA braved the weather again this past weekend and showed up to play in the Johannesburg Darts Association Open for 2023. It was again hosted at the Dinwiddie Sports Club.

There was a phenomenal turnout of players from around Gauteng and we ended with a total tally of 147 players. The day started a bit late due to players arriving after the cut off time. The draw was done and we could start with the Block format playoffs.

The ESDA players that attended and their achievements are:

Sally J'arlette-joy missed out progressing to Top 16 due to poor scorekeeping from her block runner, having won most of her games, the scores did not reflect this and unfortunately, she fell out during the Block stage.

Lynette Kruger, Delian Bennett and Thea Joubert also fell out during the Block stages.

Although Jen Bennett fell out during the Block stages, she threw some beautiful darts, managing to close her one game on a bull, achieving a high closing of 116 as well as the highest score thrown of 140. We are super proud of how her darts are improving.

Maryna Badenhorst's darts were on fire and she managed to progress all the way to Top 8, where she was unfortunately taken out by her team mate and partner Moira. Maryna threw 1 x 180 for the day and achieving an awesome highest closure of 120 by throwing a Shanghai on 20. Well done Maryna, you make us super proud.

Moira Cronje's darts were the strongest of all the ESDA women on the day and she managed to end 4th in the Tournament. Moira threw 1 x 180 for the day and fought very hard to push through the day despite not being on top form. Well done Moira, you definitely keep the Ladies of ESDA's name up there with the best of them.

Walther Harris and Wayne Ellis unfortunately fell out during the Block stages.

Pie Badenhorst and Chipoyera Tinashe managed to progress through the Block section but unfortunately both their journeys ended by falling out at Top 64. Tinashe did manage to throw 2 x 180's for the day.

Alfred Ungerer and Vaughn Brendon Smith had a slightly better day than most of the ESDA players and managed to throw their way up all the way to Top 32 where unfortunately both their journeys ended.

Brad Blume managed to make his way all the way up to Top 16 but again, due to some fierce competition, unfortunately his journey came to an end.

Hugo Deysel kept the ESDA Men's flag flying high and ended up taking 3rd place overall. Hugo further threw 2 x 180's for the day and throwing a highest score of 177.

Well done to each and every player who showed up and represented the Blue Machine Family. Your fellow attendees and the rest of the club are incredibly proud of all your achievements.

And off we go to prepare for the upcoming PNDA Open this coming Saturday. See you all there!
